UPPER WEST SIDE

Nestled between Central Park and Riverside Park, the Upper West Side is one of the greenest neighborhoods in Manhattan.

Welcome to the Upper West Side

The Upper West Side covers the area west of Central Park from 59th Street to 110th Street. It is surrounded by two iconic parks. To the east, you have Central Park -  with its miles of running paths, various green spaces, and performances in the park. To the west, you have Riverside Park along the Hudson River, with its biking and running paths, playgrounds, sports fields and more.

The Upper West Side is known for its relaxed, laid-back feel and has a reputation of attracting young couples and families. The green spaces, quiet streets and low-key bars and restaurants give the neighborhood an almost suburban feel compared to its downtown counterparts.

LOCAL LIFESTYLE

The UWS is the rare New York City neighborhood that appeals to everyone. Residents run the gamut from young professionals, to middle-class families and residents who have lived in the neighborhood since the 1980s. While many blocks feel like quiet, suburban neighborhoods, the avenues along Broadway, Amsterdam and Columbus are busy and a mix of mom-and-pop shops along with big box stores.

The Upper West Side is home to some of the greatest cultural institutions in New York, including Lincoln Center and the American Museum of Natural History. Whether you like strolling around Central Park or going to see the NYC Ballet, there's something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate on the Upper West Side. But one of the most beloved features of the area is the relaxed, welcoming vibe that permeates every corner of this neighborhood.

DINING, ENTERTAINMENT, & SHOPPING

While you can spend all day enjoying the outdoors on the Upper West Side, there are many fun indoor activities as well. The American Museum of Natural History has hundreds of exciting, informative exhibits, while Lincoln Center has regular performances by the New York City Ballet and New York Philharmonic.

The Upper West Side also has some of the best grocery and specialty stores in Manhattan. A name known all around the U.S., Zabar's is a must-visit when in the Upper West Side. You’ll discover a range of delicious options at this gourmet grocery store, including smoked salmon, caviar, and cheese. Barney Greengrass has been a New York City institution since the early 1900s, a deli that has earned acclaim due to its delicious smoked fish. For massive, decadent cookies, head to Levain Bakery. Featured on TV shows and publications for years, Levain Bakery is known to have the best cookies in Manhattan.
